Channels are distinct from your private chats
and serve as a one-way broadcast, not a conversation.
You can browse available channels by category and
topic directly within the WhatsApp "Updates" tab.
The tab is located on the bottom of your chat screen.

When you view Whatsapp channels that you follow,
they take up some storage space on your phone.
This is similar to your own chats and chat groups.

I recommend to check the storage use of your chats,
chat groups and channels once a month
(more if you are tight on space).
Whatsapp --> Settings ->> Storage and Data -->
Manage Storage
Scroll down the list and click on your chat or channel.
You can select images / videos and save to your phone
or disk-on-key outside of Whatsapp and/or delete them.

The channels listed below are active and free.
Unlike many chat groups, your contact info
is not displayed to the public
or even to the channel owner.

There is a search function in Whatsapp channels
to find other channels.
There is a setting in Whatsapp to note
which country you want as a default for searching.
